A Perfect Spring Day at Windsor Castle (4/28)

Our day out to Windsor Castle couldn't have gone any better.  From the get-go, the weather came out strong for us. Perhaps it was the good karma from our last failed visit in 2019, when U.S. President Trump descended on Windsor on the same day we had bought tickets and ended up standing with hundreds of others, cursing under our breath at the spectacle.  Today it was a totally different story.

 

Stephani is an expert navigator. She mapped out the different train stops to get there, and it was not complicated, and it did not take a long time. Before we knew it, we were stepping off the train at Windsor, walking through the station onto the main street, where we were greeted by the imposing sight of Queen Victoria. 

We knew we were going to be on our feet for a while so we grabbed refreshments at a nearby Black Sheep Coffee. This is the same coffee chain we would frequent in Belfast and the pastries and coffee are delicious. 

The Castle is Stunning

I feel somewhat impotent from a written standpoint attempting to accurately describe Windsor Castle the way you would expect to read about it, with all of the history, other than to say it just stuns you when you are inside. The banquet rooms are massive, adorned with precious works of art, or family crests. Other rooms are fully decked with military weaponry on the walls, lots of it, and old too. We were also told to abide by a no-photography rule and we were determined not to be the American couple pointed out for it and removed, so, you will have to visit Windsor for yourselves to see it. 

St George's Chapel

This is where Prince Harry and Meagan Markle got married, it's also where Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip are buried, we saw the black marble slab where they are buried along with so many other ornate beautiful statues.
