12-10-05 To Buckingham Palace and Beyond

Got up really really really early this morning intent on beating everyone to London, and look at the pictures and tell us… Took a brisk walk in Hyde Park, looked for speakers corner, but were told no speakers corner on Saturday, too bad, because I was going to do an hour on Rachel Fuller and Pete Townshend… he he

So, then we walked through Hyde Park down to Buckingham Palace (Buck Pal for short) for a look at the official residence of Her Majesty, The Queen of England. I must say, we were quite impressed, the palace is huge, lots of tourists milling about, but that was a about it.

Then we went to Knightsbridge to visit the world famous Harrods, what a shop this is. We were told there was a statue of Diana and Dodi, but could not located it. We were able to locate a Krispy Kreme and paid almost ten dollars for four donuts and two coffees, yikes!

We wanted to get a bit of market shopping done, so we headed up to Camden Market in Camden Town. It was a very busy market, lots of people, little security around, it was the first time that both of us felt unsafe. When you see the reports on the news from Israel, it is always a busy market that a suicide bomber selects as his target. We made a few purchases and had tea in a café before hopping on the train back to Victoria and home for the day.

We’ll probably venture out to Croydon town center later on for something to eat and an early night. Tomorrow we will be having Sunday lunch with my old friend from school, Paul Mossop and his family.
