Long Day
It was a long trip, especially considering our Friday started at 5am, then ended with a red-eye to NY, during which we did not sleep, then a 6 hour crash at Best Western in NYC before starting leg II. Leg II did not go well for us though. Did not sleep on the plane, got in around 7:30 a.m., to find the trains from airport were on strike. Plan B was a 2 hour bus ride to central Milan train station, where we were awed at the size of the station and wandered around helpless and tired trying to figure it out. We waited in one line, but bailed on that, only to wait in another line to be told the one we had lined up in was the right one. So waited an hour in line to get reservations. Made the train to Venice my seconds, I mean, seconds. By now, I was falling asleep and snoring for the rest of the passengers to enjoy, then waking myself up with my own snoring.. So, this went on and off for two and a half hours to Venice, where we then had to board a water taxi, only, we got on the wrong one, and spent the next 90 minutes going up the 14 stops, and back up along the 14 stops till we arrived at the right stop, then wandered around cobblestone streets looking for the hotel.
Anyway, we found it. It's an old quiet hotel with really tall ceilings, I think the scarlet pimpernel may have stayed here once.
Well, we are happy to be here, but ready to grab some sleep and try again tomorrow.
