(28-April) Off to Ischia

We slept in a little bit longer this morning, sad to leave our wonderful room at Camere Dei Conti. All the luggage was stacked ready to go so we went to breakfast at Deg'l Innocenti bar. The barista was cordial, more so than on recent visits, could have been the different colored ticket we presented. He scolded us the other morning for making incorrect choices on what is offered to hotel guests. Such is life here, not much written down clearly, so we find ourselves bumbling around, but today, we got a smile out of the old bugger and some English.

Steph picked out a few new scarves in the market and we discovered, perhaps too late, a wonderful indoor farmers market and fish market in a huge building across the street. Outdoor signage makers would make a lot of money here, but I doubt the Italians would have things any different, they like things to be tucked away perhaps.

We checked out of the room and headed around the corner to the train station where we camped out for three hours. We have about a 3 hour train ride to Naples, and then catch the ferry over to Ischia where we will get to explore the Island where Stephani's grandparents hail from.

9:30 p.m.

Upon arrival in Naples we encountered an unbelievable taxi ride from train to the ferry port, more on that later, but then a lovely boat ride out of Naples across to Ischia. Once you get out of port,  Naples is stunning, and as we edged toward Ishcia, we noticed large medieval forts on the surrounding Islands.  The Hotel Solemar is a great little place, near the water, and near all of the amazing shopping and dining. We did good!

We went for a brief walk and found La Terrazza, a rustic Italian ristorante where we had a little spicy salami pizza and seafood linguini, oh and of course, a little of this.  Bed early, no Internet in the room, am here in the lobby yawning. Will try to post more of our time here before checking out, but may not be able to blog again until we reach Pompei.
