(4-May) Roaming Around Rome

Well friends, that's it! It doesn't feel like it to us, but two weeks in Italy flew by. Tomorrow morning we will check out of Rome Vatican Suites B&B and take our one-shot, must be perfect attempt at getting to the airport by Metro in time for the long flight home.

Today was a spare day of sorts where we basically had breakfast and then put on our walking shoes to scope out the Metro, locate an Internet hotspot to print out our boarding passes and oh yes, sight see what we may have missed our first couple of days here. We strolled along the riverbank and saw an old castle, had coffee in a piazza which plays host to a bustling farmers market, located the famed Trevi fountain and took lots and lots of pictures. My ankle was pretty much healed up and able to walk about 8 miles around Rome before going back to the room to chill out.. We've both been doing so much walking, it feels like we may have even lost a few pounds.

Things we will miss about Italy - the food, relaxed lifestyle and beautiful scenery. We did meet some nice people on our travels that made our stay nice like Fabio, in Pompei, Nino in Rome and the Conti's in Florence. We also got to spend a wonderful day with our friends Mark and Jilly. We are both very well rested and relaxed.

Things we will not miss about Italy - dog poop, smokers, aggressive drivers, bad manners and scammers. You have to keep your wits about you and not let it get to you, because after all, it is all part of the experience.

Most awesome relic - (gary) the spear that was used on Jesus, located in the Vatican. (Steph) Gary. Lol, no but seriously the micro mosiac floors in the crypt of the Duomo in Florence and the micro mosiac's in the Vatican museum.

Most surprising taste (Gary) - fried artichoke, (Steph) freshness of caprese, also a fried zucchini flower.

Cherished memory - (gary) gondola ride in Venice, (Steph) climbing up il Castello looking down on Ishcia knowing that is where her grandmother grew up.

Biggest disappointment - (gary) failed laptop AC adapter which prevented us from posting photos and videos while here, but don't worry, we will be going back into these posts and adding all of the good stuff that should have made this blog truly great. (Steph) Driving all the way to Viarregio only to discover a bit of a dud.

We hope you had fun sharing the journey with us, can't wait to see everyone back in the USA!
